Description

A pair of cottages located in Hatfield Broad Oak, dating to the late 16th century, with subsequent alterations in the 17th and early 19th centuries. The cottages are timber framed and plastered. Musbrook Cottage is a two-storey building with a gabled pegtile roof, featuring a stack positioned between the two properties. The first floor has two double-hung sash windows with small panes above, and a central door protected by a flat hood. No. 14 is a single-storey building with attic space, also with a gabled pegtile roof and a single gabled dormer on the front slope. It has a central door approached by a flight of steps, and a 20th-century metal casement window with small panes on either side. Originally both units were single-storey, with Musbrook Cottage raised to two storeys in the early 19th century. No. 14 retains some original features, including heavy stop-chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops, and jowled posts dating to the late 16th century.
