Description
This group of farm buildings, located 50 metres north of Lea Hall on Dunmow Road in Hatfield Heath, dates from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries and is primarily constructed of timber framing. The prominent feature is a large 17th-century barn situated at the southeast corner of the group, which has a gabled peg-tile roof, part black weatherboarding, and part exposed frame, along with gabled midstreys on its northeast side. To the northwest is a lower outbuilding with a slate roof and black boarding. The west side includes a former cart lodge with a peg-tile roof and black boarding, supported by cast iron posts. Adjacent to this is a substantial 18th-century barn or granary, which features a peg-tile roof and upper parts of framing set on a brick base. This barn has a balcony at the southwest corner with iron railings and a pent roof. South of the granary is a long, narrow range of stables with a peg-tile roof, showcasing exposed 19th-century framing and a hipped end. The southern side of the courtyard is bordered by two curved sections of flint wall, creating a central opening.
