Description

This is an 18th-century barn located 30 meters north of Great Oakley Lodge. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with approximately half of the roof covered in corrugated iron and the other half in corrugated asbestos. The barn has seven bays that run roughly north-south, with a midstrey on the east side and a lean-to extension in the southeast corner. The hardwood frame is jointed and pegged, featuring primary straight bracing. The wallplates have face-halved and bladed scarfs. The roof is a clasped purlin type. Notably, the section of the roof that is now covered with asbestos was thatched until around 1980.
