Description
Old Scantlings is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is timber framed, roughcast rendered, and has a hoof thatched roof. The house has four bays facing approximately south, with an axial stack located in the second bay from the left end, which creates a lobby entrance. There is a 20th-century lean-to extension at the right end. The building is one storey with attics and features six 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor, along with one additional casement in a gabled dormer. The entrance includes a 20th-century door set in a glazed gabled porch, which is roofed with red clay 'Roman' tiles. Inside, there are chamfered axial beams and plain joists with a horizontal section. During the survey in September 1985, the roof was being prepared for re-thatching, with some red clay 'Roman' tiles visible below the dormer. There was no access to the rear or the interior of the building.
