House and outbuilding. Probably 18th century, likely built for Richard Rigby, with 19th and 20th century alterations and additions. The front range is of gault brick with a red plain tiled roof and a central gault brick chimney stack. It has two storeys, attics, and basements, with gabled returns featuring end pilasters. A band and two central pilasters mark the left return, and there is a parapet. There are five tall windows, with gauged brick arches. The central upper and lower windows are blocked. The windows are mainly tall casements with glazing bars, and vertically sliding sashes with panels below the first floor window on the right. A pair of cast iron balconies are present on the first floor, and there are shutters to the ground floor windows. Attached to the rear, facing The Green, are three lower ranges. The range behind the front range has a parapet, band, and pilasters, with two first-floor small-paned casements with segmental heads. The other ranges have red brick chimney stacks and dormer windows. Interior features of the 18th century front ranges include six-panelled doors, moulded surrounds with paterae, window shutters, moulded dados and wainscots, and moulded cornices. The staircase has stick balusters, a wreathed handrail, and moulded open strings. A moulded arch with pilasters leads to the hall. The fireplace has a marble surround, fluted with paterae. Several 18th and 19th century cast iron fire surrounds and grates are present, one particularly fine with classical figures standing on fluted columns and figures within swags. A rear landing features a small lead flower sink with a draining board. The butler’s pantry has original shelves and cupboards, and a hob grate. The dairy has a leaded light window, shelves, and Delft tiles in a cupboard. Original slatted doors, walls, and floors are found in the cellar. A brick wine store is also present. A second cellar range is partially vaulted with original floors and steps. Within the cellar/basement area are 17th/18th century metal three-light windows, a brick fireplace with an iron grate and pot hook, and a stone sink. A grotto room is in the basement of the front range, lined with shells, flints, slag, and glass, and opens into the rear garden.
