Description
The Little Bromley War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, with additions for the Second World War, and was restored in 2014. It is made of granite and is located on a small traffic island at the junction of Church Road, Shop Road, and Bentley Road.
The memorial features a single-step base supporting a tapering, trapezoidal, rock-faced plinth, which in turn supports the tapering shaft of a wheel-head cross. On the north side of the plinth, there is a tablet dedicated to the First World War, which reads: "TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF THIS VILLAGE WHO DIED FOR / US IN THE WAR. 1914-1919. / REMEMBER, O LORD THE BRAVE / AND TRUE, WHO DIED THE DEATH / OF HONOUR / [Names] / MAKE THEM TO BE NUMBERED WITH / THY SAINTS, IN GLORY EVERLASTING."
On the south side of the plinth is the Second World War tablet, which states: "ALSO OF THE MEN WHO FELL / IN THE 1939-1945 WAR / [Names] / IN REMEMBRANCE." The head of the cross is inscribed with "R.I.P."
The memorial is set on a paved area that is enclosed by a chain-link fence supported by concrete posts.
