Description

The building consists of a barn and a linked cow byre located to the northwest, forming the south and west sides of the stock yard at Hill Farm. The barn dates from the mid-18th century, while the cow byre was built in the 19th century. The barn is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, sitting on a red brick plinth, and features a corrugated iron roof. It has three bays with a central gabled midstrey, which includes double vertically boarded doors. The long walls have straight bracing, and the end walls have side girts. All principal timbers are pegged, and the roof has side purlins with clasping collars. Some original braces to the tie beams have been replaced with 19th-century nailed braces. The top plate has a halved and bladed scarf joint. The frame is mostly intact, with some softwood replacements in the west gable. The date 1765 is noted at the foot of the midstrey storey post. The cow byre features red brick end bays to the north and four open bays to the south, topped with a red pantiled roof and a vertically boarded door on the north gable end. Hill Farmhouse, located nearby, is not listed.
