Description
The war memorial in Lawford, dating from around 1920, is made of Portland stone. It features a square pillar with a stepped base that slightly flares towards the lower body. The tablets on the front and sides project and are gently battered, with moulding at the corners of the top and a stepped cap. The east front displays an inscription that reads: "1914 - 1918/THESE/MEN OF LAWFORD/GAVE THEIR LIVES/FOR THEIR COUNTRY/[8 names]/THIS IS /THE RECORD/OF THEIR HONOUR/AND OF OUR/GRATITUDE." Below this is a separate inscription for the 1939-1945 war, listing five names. The left and right reveals faintly show the names of those who served in the First World War, with the left wall listing A to N and the right wall O to Z. The memorial stands on a square plinth, which is included in the listing. It is surrounded by cobbled paving and a series of traffic bollards, which were added in the mid to late 20th century and are not included in the listing.
