Description
This is a terrace of five houses, built around 1830 in Walton-on-the-Naze, likely designed by John Penrice of Colchester. The buildings are constructed of brick, covered with stucco, and follow the curve of the road, particularly noticeable in the return to the left (number 40). The terrace is three storeys high, with six chimney stacks visible. A parapet tops the building, below a moulded cornice. Pilasters with moulded capitals are situated between and below the first and second-floor windows, and the ground floor features banded rustication. The window arrangement is 3:1:9, incorporating the left return and the curve. The upper windows are small-paned vertically sliding sashes, with smaller panes on the second floor. The first floor windows have stuccoed vase baluster balconies supported by scroll brackets. The ground floor windows are round-headed, with glazed margins. One third-floor window has been blocked up. The five doorways are round-headed, each with a fanlight, some featuring radiating glazing bars.
