Description

The United Reformed Church is a late 19th-century building, with its foundation stone dated 1878 and dedicated to Albert Spicer. It features a random stone facade with stone quoins, windows, doors, a plinth, and a decorative band. The roof is covered with red plain tiles, and there is a weatherboarded belfry topped with a shingle-clad spire. The church is situated at the corner of Station Street and New Pier Street, with the main entrance facing southwest and side walls angled towards the northwest and southeast.

To the west of the northwest return is a gabled two-storey porch, and to the east of this porch is an attached single-storey church hall. There are also two larger, later church halls attached by an archway to the southwest wall, constructed of similar materials and in a matching style. The roof above the main entrance is three-angled with a pointed hip, featuring a central gable with bargeboards that rises above the eaves. A stone panel with a moulded two-centred arch and label is positioned above three stepped lancet windows with transoms. A decorative band continues around the building and over the return windows.

The central doorway is moulded with two-centre arches, and the jamb shafts have moulded bases and capitals. The label above features foliate stops, and there is a gauged tile arch above. The entrance has double vertically boarded doors with ornate iron hinges. Each angle of the church has a trefoiled two-centre arched window, and there are four such windows on each return, all with leaded stained glass. The northwest porch includes a small light at the gable apex, and the upper stage features a cinquefoil light in a stone panel with a stopped label above, along with small double trefoiled lights at the ground floor. The east wall has a double door with a light above, topped by a pointed segmental head, and the doorway has a Caernarvon head.

The spire, located south of the ridge, has a splayed boarded base and two trefoiled-headed sounding louvres on each face, culminating in a broached spire with an ornate iron cross finial at the pointed hip. Internally, the church remains intact, featuring an organ and reading desk on the east wall, a panelled balcony supported by slender columns on the west wall, and a boarded ceiling.
