Description
Masonic Hall, formerly the Court House, is a building dating from around 1859 or 1869. It was constructed at a cost of £3,000 and features gault and black bricks with a hipped grey slate roof, along with end and central chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with the end bays projecting forward.
The eaves cornice is adorned with two dentilled and moulded bands, and below this is a band of black brick crosses with a moulded and dentilled soffit. The windows are arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern, featuring vertically sliding sashes with side margins on the first floor, stepped and raised gauged arches, recessed panels between the windows, and aprons beneath them.
A central band, which is stuccoed, highlights the three central bays, with the middle bay projecting forward and supported by two moulded brackets. The ground floor has eight bands and features lugged round-headed arches with keystones above the windows and the right doorway, with stepped keystones on both sides. The windows also have aprons. Access to the building is via a step approach leading to panelled double doors, topped by a semi-circular fanlight.
