Description
The Red House is an 18th-century house located on South Street in Rochford. It features red brick construction and a large red plain tiled gambrel roof, with chimney stacks on both the right and left sides. The building has two storeys and attics, with two segmental headed dormers. There is a five-window range of vertically sliding sashes with horns and segmental heads. The central entrance consists of a two-panel, four-light door, which is framed by reveals and a moulded surround, supported by fluted pilasters with capitals and bases. The frieze includes triglyphs and metopes, topped with a dentilled pediment. To the right, there is a gabled single-storey extension, which has a window matching that of the main house and a gable on the right return; this extension was formerly a carriage house.
