Description

This is a row of four cottages located on Shoebury Road, Great Wakering. They likely date back to the 17th century or earlier, with subsequent alterations and additions made over time. The cottages are timber framed and have a rough render finish. The roofs are covered in red plain tiles, and there are three plastered chimney stacks at the rear. The cottages are two storeys high. Numbers 134 and 136 project forward, and number 134 features a plaster top plate. There is a five-window front with a variety of sash windows with different glazing bar patterns; the first-floor windows are at varying heights. Four doorways are present, each with simple surrounds and flat canopies. Inside, heavy chamfered bridging and ceiling joists are visible. A large chimney stack is present, now fitted with fireplaces from the 20th century, and a substantial storey post is visible in number 130.
