RAYLEIGH RAYLEIGH AVENUE TQ 88 NW 6/105 Eastwood Lodge - II

House. C16 or earlier origin with C17, C18 and later alterations and additions. Timber framed and plastered with batten decoration. Hipped red plain tiled roof. 2 rear partly restored red brick chimney stacks. Rear right and left gabled wings and stair turret. 2 storeys and cellar. 4 small paned vertically sliding sashes with moulded surrounds to first floor, 2 similar to ground floor right. Left hipped leaded porch enclosing 2 C19 angled bays, 4 panelled 2 light door with moulded surround to left of which is a small paned vertically sliding sash window. To right is a single storey wing. Interior features include, early brick cellar with light niches. Panelled room and hall. Stop chamfered bridging joists and moulded bridging joists. Rear storey posts, jowled storey posts. Wooden Tudor arched doorway with foliate carved spandrels. Marble fireplace. Vertically boarded stair turret walls. Reputed to have been a hunting lodge.
