Description
Nos. 14 and 16 High Street are a late 18th or early 19th century red brick building, with a later 19th century red brick house attached at the east end, now forming part of the Urban District Council Offices.
The original block is two storeys and has attics. It has a three-window front with double-hung sash windows, lacking glazing bars, set in plain reveals. The outer windows are three-light sashes. A central six-panel door is topped by a semi-circular fanlight and framed by a raised stucco surround. Raised stucco bands are visible between the storeys and at eaves level. The roof is tiled, with a stone gutter, and features three flat-headed dormers. No. 16 is a smaller house with end pilasters and two storeys. It has two windows with double-hung sashes, without glazing bars, in plain reveals. A central doorway has a semi-circular arched fanlight. A raised brick band runs between the storeys. The roof is tiled, but of 20th century date.
Nos. 14 to 18 (even) together with Nos. 15, 17 and the Cabin Dairy form a group.
