Description
The School and Clock Tower is a red brick octagonal tower built in 1877, featuring black brick quoins and diapering. It has four stages topped with an open cupola that has a fish scale tiled ogee-shaped roof. The upper stage is plastered and includes corner pinnacles and clock faces on the east and west sides. The second storey has lancet windows with lattice leaded lights, while the first storey features casements with stucco square hood moulds. The ground storey consists of three 4-centred arches with hood moulds. Stucco moulded string courses run between the storeys. Gabled wings with cut and shaped ornamental bargeboards extend to the south on both the east and west sides of the tower. The School and Clock Tower is part of a group that includes Nos 47 to 57 (odd), No 30, Nos 44 to 50 (even), and Nos 1 and 2 Shore Road, with Nos 47 to 53 (odd) and Nos 48 and 50 being of local interest.
