Description

This is a former barn complex, dated 1744, made from re-used medieval timber. It includes 19th-century outbuildings and a 20th-century entrance and reception area, and it now serves as a golf club house. The structure is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a brick plinth and red plain tiled roofs. The lower level range to the north is attached to another barn. The main barn features a roof that is half hipped to the left and has a window arrangement of two sets of two long vari-light square leaded casements. There is a 20th-century southwest extension with a window arrangement of one set of five. A gabled midstrey is located to the east, and the barn has an inserted ceiling. The roof structure includes queen struts, pegged joints, and staggered side purlins. There are carved studs on the east and west walls marked with "TF 1744," relating to Thomas Fitch. To the east, there is an attached two-bay cart lodge made of re-used medieval timber with a pegged side purlin roof. To the southeast, a 19th-century building with four bays features a side purlin and king post roof with original iron ties. The 20th-century southwest gabled entrance uses matching materials. This complex is notable for its architectural quality and as a good example of early 20th-century barn conversion, forming an attractive group with the nearby Warren House.
