Description
The barn at Ishams Chase is an early 17th-century structure. It is timber framed and covered in black weatherboarding, featuring gabled and half-hipped roofs that are peg tiled. The barn consists of three bays and has an aisle on the east side, along with a projecting midstrey that has a half-hipped gable at the center of the west side. In the 20th century, some small windows and a door were added to the south side. The barn showcases jowled posts, braces that interrupt the studs, and straight braces supporting the tie beams. The roof contains some old rafters and 19th-century "V" braces to the principal rafters, with purlins resting on their backs and an iron central hangar rod.
