Description
Mathyns is an 18th-century red brick house located at the east end of Blue Mills, previously known as Mill House. The south front features a parapet with a stone coping and a dentilled brick cornice. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with a five-window range consisting of double-hung sashes with glazing bars in flush cased frames. There is a later central projecting brick porch that includes a parapet and a stone cornice, with a doorway framed by a shouldered stone architrave. The roof is a tiled mansard, hipped, and includes two hipped dormers on the south front. The rear of the house has 19th-century additions. Mathyns, along with Blue Mills Bridge and Blue Mills, creates a picturesque group.
