Description
Blue Mills is an early 19th-century timber-framed and weatherboarded water mill located next to the west end of the former Mill House, now known as Mathyns. It is set back from the road in a charming location, featuring a five-arched brick sluice way and a mill pond situated between the mill and the road. The building has two storeys and attics, with double-hung sash windows that have glazing bars and are set in cased frames. The roof is slate, designed in a mansard style with half hips, and includes a hoist loft on the south front. Inside, there is notable 19th-century water mill machinery, which is no longer operational but was repaired in 1949. Blue Mills, along with Blue Mills Bridge and Mathyns, creates a visually appealing group.
