Description

This is a terrace of four identical houses located on Wantz Road, Maldon, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of yellow Gault brick with grey Gault brick for the quoins and dressings, and have hipped slate roofs. There are four brick stacks, two on the central ridge and two on the end hips. Two of the stacks are truncated, while the stack serving numbers 27-31 retains square, crested pots.

Each house is two storeys and has an eight-window front. The upper floor windows are wide sashes with two vertical glazing bars, paired with narrower sashes containing a single vertical glazing bar. All windows have curved, segmental heads. The ground floor features paired painted timber doorcases with cornice hoods, bracketed eaves, and Doric half columns, sheltering doors with fanlights and panelled reveals. Each house also has a single sash window on the ground floor, matching those on the upper floor.

The return elevation to the north (on house number 25) features two blocked window openings above two sash windows. All windows on this return elevation are modern replacements, made of aluminium and designed to replicate the original appearance. The interiors of the houses have not been inspected.
