Description
Five Gables is a cottage that dates from the 18th century or earlier. It is likely one of the cottages used by Peter Du Cane when he relocated villagers from Braxted Park to Bung Row to enclose the park around 1825 to 1831. The cottage has a plastered exterior and a red tiled roof, featuring two high and two low gabled dormers. There are red brick chimney stacks on both the left and right sides, as well as a central tall chimney stack with three attached diagonal shafts. The building has one storey and attics, with a four-window range of two-light casements that have diamond leaded glazing. A central gabled porch is present, with a matching three-light casement window to the left and a four-panelled door to the right.
