Description

The Village Pump is an early 19th-century pump located off Tiptree Road in Great Braxted. It is enclosed in a white painted boarded casing and features a down-curved iron handle topped with a ball finial. The central moulded metal panel displays flower motifs on either side of the lead spout, which is adorned with flowing moulding above. An iron half band with a central bucket hook supports the spout. This pump is unusual and resembles one found in the stable courtyard of Braxted Park House. It was likely placed here by Peter Du Cane when he relocated cottages from near Great Braxted Church to Bung Row and enclosed the park.
