Description

The National Westminster Bank, originally a house, dates from the early 19th century. It features a white Suffolk brick front with stucco dressings and a large hipped slate roof supported by two large stacks. The building stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. Its asymmetrical front is characterized by five broad piers that align with recesses in the parapet. A deep stucco band with a cornice and thin consoles marks the edge of each pier. The second floor has three sash windows with cambered arches and margin glazing, linked by stucco panels to three similar windows on the first floor. The ground floor has a 20th-century bank frontage made of stone with slate infill panels. Inside, one room on the first floor at the west end features a moulded plaster cornice, and the rear stairs have stick balusters, a hardwood handrail, and shaped tread ends.
