Description

30 and 30A High Street is a pair of shops and offices dating from the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof that sits behind a plain parapet, featuring a red-brick stack on the east side above the parapet.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a three-window range. At the rear, there is a 19th-century red-brick extension that is two storeys tall with a plain tile gabled roof. The ground floor is penetrated by a 20th-century arcade leading to Edwards Walk. On the second floor, there are three flush 9-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds, while the first floor has three similar but 12-pane sash windows. The ground floor features 20th-century shop fronts with a continuous fascia; the shop on the east side has two large glass panes, and the west side has one pane and an entrance to the arcade. Above the fascia, there are three-light fittings on curved iron brackets, along with a hanging sign on an elaborate wrought-iron bracket.

Inside, the first-floor windows have moulded architraves and folding shutters. Some original doors and moulded door architraves remain on the upper floors.
