Description

6 The Square is a late 18th-century bank, likely originally built as a dwelling. It is constructed with stucco to the ground floor and brick above, with a parapet concealing the roof. The building is four storeys high and has a three-window front. Stone pilasters divide the ground floor into two main bays; the left-hand section has paired two-light sash windows, while the right-hand section features a central doorway flanked by windows, replacing a blocked window and original door. A heavy cornice sits above the ground floor, supported by paired console brackets. The first floor is articulated by three recessed segmental arches, each containing a twelve-pane sash window with a flat-arched stucco head. A stuccoed eaves cornice is topped by a parapet. A gable end stack is present. The building has group value.
