Description
7 The Square is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices, dating from around 1730. It is constructed of brick and features a plain tiled roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a four-window range. The late 19th-century shopfront includes clustered shafts and a central doorway. There is an additional doorway to the right, which is part of the shopfront and also features clustered shafts and an ogee arch. Above the shopfront, there are twelve-pane sash windows with flat-arched heads and keystones. The building has string courses at each level and a central rainwater head, as well as a deep modillion eaves cornice. The roof includes two gabled dormers and angle quoins.
Inside, there is a straight flight stair with heavy turned balusters and a closed string. The interior also features late 16th-century or early 17th-century panelling, which may have been resited or could be part of the original structure. This panelling includes small panels and a frieze decorated with abstract foliate patterns and mythical beasts.
