Description
35A and 35B High Street are mid-19th century shops with offices. They are constructed of red Flemish-bond brick with Gault brick dressings and feature a hipped slate roof with two stacks. The building has three storeys and a two-window range. It has plain parapets, edge pilaster strips of Gault brickwork, and a raised band beneath the parapet.
On the second floor, there are two recessed 12-pane sash windows with flat gauged Gault-brick heads. The first floor features two canted oriels with lead flat tops and sash windows that have one vertical glazing bar; the oriel on the right has additional upper lights with fluted corner pilasters. The ground-floor unit on the left has a 20th-century shop front, a blind box, a fascia, leaded lights above a plate-glass window, and brick stall-risers. The unit on the right has a 19th-century shop front with end consoles on panelled pilasters, a tilted-out fascia, a 20th-century glazed door under a 19th-century rectangular fanlight, and a timber panelled stall-riser.
The western flank elevation facing Church Walk features a 12-pane sash window in a moulded surround on the first floor. The shop front returns on the ground floor, flanked by a 6-pane fixed-light window. The interior has not been inspected.
