Description

Barn. Built around the early 19th century. The barn is located approximately 30 metres southeast of Whitehouse Farmhouse. It is a timber-framed building with weatherboarding on a brick plinth, and has a corrugated iron sheet roof with gabled ends. The plan consists of a five-bay barn, featuring a central threshing bay with a midstrey on the north side. The midstrey incorporates an integral store or granary on its west side. A later outshut has been added to the south side. The north front has a gabled midstrey in the centre, with its roof sloping downwards on the right over the integral store. The rear (south) elevation has a large outshut, weatherboarded and topped with a corrugated asbestos sheet roof. The original timber frame is complete and includes reused timbers from an earlier building. Interior features include a mid-rail, diagonal straight tension-braces and wall studs; unjowled posts with curved knees to tie-beams; straight collars with dovetail lap-joints to common rafters and clasping thin purlins. Common rafters and a ridgeboard are intact, and a stone-paved threshing floor remains.
