Description
This building is a range of two coach-houses and stables located 2 metres east of Hazeleigh Grange, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick in Flemish bond and has a slate roof. The central stable block is square in plan and faces north, featuring a hayloft above, with a single-storey coach-house on each side.
On the ground floor, there are four semi-circular lights with radial glazing bars set in brick arches. The first floor has two similar lights that have been blocked and altered to plain rectangular lights within the original brick arches. The stable block includes a central halved stable door and two pairs of plain coach-house doors. Access to the hayloft is provided by a plain boarded door on the first floor, with a ladder leading up to it.
The stable block has a pyramidal roof, while the coach-house wings have hipped roofs, all with a shallow pitch. A sale catalogue from 1817 describes the building as recently completed. The two first-floor windows that have been blocked could be easily restored to their original design, using the ground floor windows as a reference. The stable retains its original interior fittings and is included for its group value.
