Description

The building is a stable located about 5 metres west of Bow Hill House, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red and grey brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof. The central coach-house has a gable end facing the yard, with broad lean-to stables on either side. The coach-house is two storeys tall, and its gable end projects forward from the lean-tos. There is a dentilled brick eaves band and verge on each lean-to, leading up to a similar band and verge that form a pedimented gable on the coach-house, which also includes a clock face within the gable.

On the first floor of the coach-house, there is one three-light horizontally-sliding sash window. The ground floor has irregular fenestration, including one Diocletian window with rubbed brick voussoirs on each lean-to, and one two-light centrally-pivoting window with a segmental head on the long side of each lean-to. Each lean-to has a stable door with a splayed stone on a rendered lintel at the outer end, and tall double doors with splayed brick voussoirs at the gable end of the coach-house. Additionally, there are small tapering stones carved with masks in relief on each side of the coach-house window and above each stable door.

Inside, there are three stalls in each lean-to, each with a rectangular opening above that connects to the first-floor hay-loft over the coach-house. Each opening on the right side has a semicircular wooden drum or vertical chute between it and the hay-rack. The stalls in the left lean-to feature iron newel posts with knob finials. There are stairs to the hay-loft at the front end of the right lean-to, with an opening for similar access on the left.
