Description

Cedar Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed with a timber frame and has a rendered exterior, featuring both plain tile and slate roofs. The building has a T-shaped plan, with a two-storey wing at the north-east end that has a gabled plain tile roof, and a two-storey block at the rear with a low-pitched slate roof. To the south-west, there is a one-storey-and-attic block with a plain tile gambrel roof. The north-east elevation includes an additional gabled wing, with a plain sash window and two smaller plain sash windows on the first floor. The ground floor features a similar small sash window, a canted bay window with a 16-pane sash and a lean-to plain tile roof, and a door with a semicircular fanlight that has Gothick glazing bars. The north-west face of the wing has a 9-pane sash window with a moulded surround on the first floor. The south-west elevation has an altered 9-pane sash window, now with two panes in the top part, and two small plain sash windows. On the ground floor, there is one similar small sash and a 12-pane sash with a moulded surround. The entrance door has a moulded flat hood and a lean-to extension. A gabled dormer on the south-east facing slope of the gambrel roof contains a leaded light window. The rear range, which has a slate roof, features a truncated flank stack and a bay window on the south-east face. The interior has not been inspected.
