Description

This is a farmhouse, likely dating back to the 15th century or earlier, with significant additions and alterations from the 16th and 17th centuries, and later changes. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a red-tiled roof that is hipped on the right side. Four brick chimney stacks are present: one to the front range with three diagonal shafts, two to the rear right range, and a 19th-century diagonal shaft to a single-story range on the left, used as a brewhouse/outhouse. The house has an L-shape, with a 19th-century extension to the rear left. It is one story high with attics, featuring three gabled dormers, with a timber pediment over the left dormer. Three small, multi-paned, two-light casement windows are on the ground floor, each with a pentice board above. A 20th-century door is located centrally on the left side. A blocked 15th-century timber doorway, with a distinctive ogee-shaped head, is found to the rear left of the front range. The original sections could not be internally inspected during a recent survey. The roof is constructed with 2 armed crown posts. The 19th-century brewhouse retains its original copper, fireplace, and chimney stack, with a brick fireplace in a red brick "rat trap" bond. Looped iron railings enclose the front garden, and the site may have once been moated.
