Description

This is a 17th century barn located north-east of Sumner’s Farmhouse. The barn is timber-framed with oak, spanning 7 bays and featuring a central south-west midstrey which incorporates a built-in pigeon loft. It has ridged, gabled roofs covered in slate. The timber framing exhibits characteristic features including jowled posts, side-girt walls, arched braced tie-beams, raking struts, collars, and purlins. The whole structure is clad in black weatherboards resting upon red brick footings. Details include scarfs and bladed joints.
