Description
Grove House is a house built around 1800, featuring a stucco exterior and a roof made of artificial slate. The building has a near-square plan and faces approximately east, with a 20th-century crosswing to the south that projects slightly forward. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to extension from the 20th century. The house stands two storeys tall, with a centrally placed entrance that includes a 20th-century door topped by an original fanlight with cast iron radiating tracery. The porch is supported by paired fluted Corinthian columns on square bases. The frieze displays egg-and-dart ornamentation and dentils. On the ground floor, there are double-hung sash windows with 12 lights on either side of the entrance, along with three similar windows on the first floor. The left side of the elevation features rusticated quoins that have been moved to the 20th-century wing. The roof is hipped with a shallow pitch and has long projecting eaves supported by shaped brackets. Inside, the original folding internal shutters remain, and the ground floor ceilings have a dentilled border, while the first floor showcases egg-and-dart and other classical motifs, mostly original, with good reproduction work where recent alterations have occurred. The original chimney stacks have been removed.
