TQ 59 NW STAPLEFORD ABBOTTS STAPLEFORD ROAD 3/12 Grove House - II

House, c. 1800. Stucco, roofed with artificial slate. Near-square plan, aspect approx. E, with C20 crosswing to S projecting slightly forward. Single-storey lean-to extension at rear, C20. 2 storeys. Entrance placed centrally in original house, C20 door with original fanlight over, cast iron radiating tracery, porch of paired fluted Corinthian columns on square bases. Frieze with egg-and- dart ornament and dentils. Double-hung sash window of 12 lights each side, original, and 3 similar windows on first floor. Rusticated quoins at left of elevation moved to C20 wing. Hipped roof of shallow pitch, long projecting eaves with shaped brackets. Original folding internal shutters. Dentilled border to ground floor ceilings, on first floor egg-and-dart and other classical motifs, mostly original, with good reproduction work where affected by recent alterations. Original chumney stacks removed.
