Description
Bons Farmhouse is a late medieval house located on Stapleford Road. It is timber framed, plastered, and features a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The hall block and east wing likely date from the 15th century and underwent significant alterations in the 16th century when the three-storey west wing was rebuilt or added. The upper storey of both crosswings projects at the front and displays original moulded bressummers and bargeboards. The central block includes an original chimney stack with eight diagonal shafts. The front has a three-window range, all fitted with diamond leaded casements. Inside the central block and west wing, there are original 16th-century stone fireplaces featuring four-centred heads and carved spandrels, closely resembling those found in the mansion of Albyns.
