Description
Passingford Mill is an 18th-century water mill located on the southern bank of the River Roding in Stapleford Abbotts. The building is timber framed, weatherboarded, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It is three storeys high with attics and features windows that are from the 18th and 19th centuries, all of which are casements. Inside, there is an original hoist mechanism. The mill was converted to turbine operation in the early 20th century, with a stationary engine housed in a brick building to the north of the wheel-housing, which was installed in the 1930s. As of the last survey in 1983, the mill was still in operation.
