Description
The barn at Waters Farm, located northeast of the domestic buildings, dates from the late 16th century and has been altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame, is weatherboarded, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The structure consists of three bays aligned approximately north-south. Originally, the barn extended further south but is now closed at the southern end with breeze blocks and cement render. There is an entrance on the east side of the southern bay and a lean-to extension on the west side of the northern bay. The interior includes jowled posts, heavy studding, and curved tension bracing above the girts, which are not trenched. The roof has queen struts and clasped purlins, with no wind bracing present. The hanging knees have replaced four arched braces that were originally part of the tiebeams. The rafters, which were originally of horizontal section with gauging holes in the sides, have now been reset on edge.
