Description

Albyns Manor is a former service range dating from the early 17th century, originally part of the mansion of Albyns, which was demolished in 1955. It was converted into a house in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in English bond and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It is aligned approximately north to south and features a crosswing at the north end, with chimney stacks placed irregularly both internally and externally. The south end has a non-symmetrical crosswing from the 20th century and a single-storey lean-to extension on its west side.

The manor stands two storeys tall with attics. On the west elevation, there is a boarded door in a restored stone surround with a Tudor arch. The windows consist of groups of 8, 4, and 8 lights, featuring ovolo-moulded wooden mullions and transoms, which have been restored. These windows have 20th-century leaded metal casements designed in a 17th-century style with cement-rendered surrounds. On the first floor, there are windows with 4, 2, 2, and 4 lights, also with ovolo-moulded wooden mullions and similar 20th-century leaded casements. Some of the original windows, particularly in the groups of four, have one light blocked. All these windows maintain a general 17th-century appearance, with quality restoration. A string course is present at the first-floor level. The north elevation and part of the west elevation of the north crosswing have been refaced with later brickwork in Flemish bond, where adjoining buildings have been removed, exposing an original gable with stone copings and one original 2-light window made of moulded brickwork at attic level.

The interior includes parts of the staircase that were removed from the original mansion of Albyns. The building was described as the stables by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England.
