Description

This is a barn located approximately 10 metres north of The Manor House, dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, with a roof made of corrugated iron. The barn consists of four bays arranged roughly east-west, featuring entrances on both sides in the second bay from the west, without a midstrey. The northern entrance was originally full height, supported by extra posts for large doors, while the southern entrance was originally lower but has been enlarged to wallplate level.

The base walls are made of red brick in English bond, varying in height from 30 centimeters to 1 metre due to the slope of the ground. The structure includes jowled posts and heavy studding that reaches full height, with straight raking braces from the posts to the sills inside the studs, which are not trenched. There are arched braces to cambered tiebeams and vertical queen struts to collars that clasp the lower of two sets of side purlins. Inclined queen posts extend from these to the upper purlins, both of which feature curved wind bracing. Each wallplate has one edge-halved and bridled scarf joint. At the eastern end, some studs have been removed to provide access to an adjoining 20th-century workshop.
