Description

TQ 49 SE LAMBOURNE MANOR ROAD, 5/31 Barn approx. 25 metres NNW of Harmes Farmhouse GV II

Aisled barn of C13 origin, rebuilt in C15/16. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Aligned approx. NW-SE, 6 bays with midstreys on both sides in third bay from SE end. Gablet roof at both ends. Weatherboarded lean-to extension roofed with red clay pantiles SW of SW midstrey. Brick lean-to extension, roofed with red clay pantiles against SE end. 3 of the arcade posts are unjowled, with oblique trenches for passing braces, C13, and in one case there is an oblique trench in the aisle tie for the same passing brace., 7 arcade posts are jowled, C15/16. The other 2 are relatively light and late in date. The arcade plates have edge-halved and bridled scarfs, with some C19/20 repair at the SE end. Side walls partly rebuilt with stock bricks, partly plastered, formerly used as a cow house, now disused.
