Description
This is an aisled barn located approximately 25 meters north-northwest of Harmes Farmhouse. It has origins dating back to the 13th century but was rebuilt in the 15th or 16th century. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It is aligned roughly northwest to southeast and consists of six bays, featuring midstreys on both sides in the third bay from the southeast end. There are gablet roofs at both ends of the barn.
To the southwest of the southwest midstreys, there is a weatherboarded lean-to extension that is roofed with red clay pantiles. Additionally, a brick lean-to extension, also roofed with red clay pantiles, is attached to the southeast end. Three of the arcade posts are unjowled and feature oblique trenches for passing braces, dating from the 13th century, with one post showing an oblique trench in the aisle tie for the same brace. Seven of the arcade posts are jowled and date from the 15th or 16th century, while the remaining two are relatively light and of a later date. The arcade plates have edge-halved and bridled scarfs, with some repairs from the 19th or 20th century at the southeast end. The side walls have been partly rebuilt using stock bricks and are partly plastered. The barn was formerly used as a cow house but is now disused.
