Description
This barn, located approximately 25 metres north-north-east of Pryors Farmhouse, dates from the early 17th century and was extended in the 18th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay plain tiles. The original structure consists of three bays oriented approximately east-west, featuring a midstrey to the north. The barn was extended to the east by two additional bays, which have a low-pitched hipped roof covered with red clay pantiles.
The original building includes jowled posts and arched braces connecting to the tiebeams, with heavy studding and curved bracing set inside the studs. The wallplates feature face-halved and bladed scarfs, and the roof is constructed with queen struts and clasped side purlins. In the extension, the posts do not have jowls, and it includes bolted knees and primary straight bracing.
