Description
This barn, located approximately 5 metres south-east of Ringers Farmhouse, dates from around 1600 and was extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber framed, covered with weatherboarding, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The structure consists of five bays arranged east to west, with a midstrey on the north side. In the 18th century, the barn was extended by two bays to the east, and in the early 19th century, it was extended by another two bays to the west, with these extensions featuring red clay 'Roman' tiles. There are lean-to extensions on both the east and west sides of the midstrey, with the western lean-to roofed in slate. The roof is hipped at both ends. The original barn features jowled posts, arched braces set inside heavy studding, and face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates. The original arched braces to the tiebeams have been replaced with bolted knees. It has a clasped purlin roof with arched wind-bracing. The large doors on the south side have been blocked. The extensions have unjowled posts and primary straight bracing.
