Description

This is a complete complex of farm buildings located east of Sparrow's Farmhouse, excluding the barn which is listed separately. The buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries and include a mix of timber framing and weatherboarding, as well as red brick in Flemish bond. The roofs are variously covered with red clay 'Roman' tiles, red clay pantiles, plain tiles, corrugated iron, and thatch.

The main range is aligned northwest to southeast and is based on the thatched barn. There are three spur ranges extending to the southwest, creating three foldyards that are open to the southwest. The first spur range at the southeast end features a timber-framed cartlodge with a shallow-pitched hipped roof made of red clay 'Roman' tiles, which has four bays open to the southeast, along with a stable that has a halved door facing northwest. The second spur range is a timber-framed shelter shed with a shallow-pitched roof of red clay 'Roman' tiles, open to the northwest, and includes a plain tiled lobby on the southeast side, as well as lean-to extensions on each side that are roofed with corrugated iron. The third spur range is a double-sided timber-framed shelter shed with a shallow-pitched hipped roof of red clay 'Roman' tiles, consisting of four bays with a spine wall, open to both the northwest and southeast. All these structures are from the 18th century and feature bolted knees to the tiebeams and clasped purlin roofs.

Additionally, there is an L-shaped range of byres made of red brick in Flemish bond, roofed with red clay 'Roman' tiles and corrugated iron, which encloses the northeast and northwest sides of the northwest foldyard. These byres date from the late 19th century. There are also minor extensions and lean-tos within the complex. Overall, this farm complex is exceptionally complete and was in use for rearing calves at the time of the survey in February 1985. It is included for its group value.
