Elmbridge School

Elmbridge School is a building constructed in 1884 by the West Ham education authorities for persistent truants. It is made of yellow stock brick with red brick dressings and features a square courtyard plan. The southeast front has five bays in width, with additional bays set back on either side, each of one storey and attics. The second and third bays have tall Dutch gables with stone trim and finials, while the side bays have similar gables. The central range has a fully hipped roof, covered in clay tiles with crested ridge bonnets and a parapet, and both end bays are hipped. There are six red brick chimneys visible from the southeast, each with pilastered shafts.

The first floor has a range of 14 windows featuring vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars, set under segmental and gauged brick arches. A red brick band, moulded of six courses, runs along the first floor. The ground storey includes two doors, each with pedimented brick surrounds and circular windows in the pediments. The end bays have semi-hexagonal bay windows, each with three vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars and low pitched leaded roofs. The central block has an eight-window range of vertical sliding sashes, set in pairs. A red terra-cotta date tablet is located in the left-hand pediment. The main roof has one dormer beneath a leaded clock turret, which is topped by a leaded cupola and wind vane.
