Description
Church House is a mid-19th century building that served as a Sunday school and caretaker's cottage, designed in the Gothic revival style. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with stone quoins and window surrounds, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has a rectangular plan oriented approximately north-south, featuring an entrance porch at the north, a blocked entrance in the west wall, and two chimney stacks on the east wall. There is also an external chimney stack on the north gable end, added in the 20th century.
The structure is single storey with attics. On the west elevation, the north porch includes a lancet window set in a shallow recess with a four-centred arch, and a central doorway with a four-centred arch and hood mould, which is blocked. A 20th-century metal casement window has been inserted. There are two windows, each with two lights and two-centred arches, featuring chamfered architraves and hood moulds. A stone string course runs at sill level. The gable of the facade displays a group of three similar lights. The building has deep eaves with a gable finial and a dentil brick course, and each original chimney stack has two diagonal shafts.
