Description

Lampetts is a house that dates back to the early 14th century, featuring an aisled hall and crosswing, with alterations made in the 16th, 18th, and early 19th centuries. The structure is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tile roof that is both hipped and gabled. The south front has a grey slate roof. The building has two storeys and a four-window range of 19th-century vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. The doorway is topped with a simple flat canopy.

There are late 16th-century red brick chimney stacks, which have been partially rebuilt at the top. The rear of the house includes late 16th and 17th-century gabled wings, one of which features a late 16th-century staircase tower. The original open hall consists of two bays and retains its complete frame, showcasing arch-braced arcades with octagonal posts and ornate octagonal crown posts that have moulded bases and capitals. Remnants of both aisles are still present, including an original two-centred door head in the north wall.

The east wing, dating from the late 14th century, has a similar crown post roof. A late 16th-century floor has been inserted in the hall. The west wing was added in the early 18th century and features a side purlin roof. Inside, there is 16th-century and early 18th-century panelling, along with early 18th-century detailing such as doors and architraves. The original construction includes simple splayed scarfs with over-squinted abutments and multi-bracing. The house is situated on a moated site.
