Description
Hales Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-14th century, featuring an open aisled hall. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, topped with a red plain tile roof. The building has two storeys, along with a single storey and attics, and is laid out in a T-shaped plan with a crosswing. There are 16th century extensions to the west. The south front has irregular window openings from the 19th and 20th centuries, including two square bay windows, and a simple 19th century doorcase. A central chimney made of red brick from the 16th century has been partly rebuilt at the top, and there is also a smaller red brick chimney from the 18th century. Inside, most of the original timber frame remains and is exposed. A 16th century first floor has been inserted in the hall, and the original hall roof features a four-armed crown post with a moulded base and capitals.
