Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Clapgate Cottages are a pair of cottages that were originally a single farmhouse, dating from the mid-17th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. The cottages are two storeys high and feature a peg tile roof, which has a gable at the west end and is half hipped at the east end. There is a tall, thin, crooked gable end stack at the west end, along with a large off-centre ridgeline stack, likely over what was once a 'baffle entry'. The front of the cottages includes two gabled porches that are enclosed and white boarded, both from the 20th century, as well as 19th-century casement windows with small panes. Inside, there are two corner cupboards from the late 18th century and timber framing with stop-chamfered details.
