Description

Spains Hall and the wing to the east is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame and plastered exterior, with 20th-century pargetted panels. The roofs are gabled and covered with peg tiles. The building has two storeys with attics and a complex plan.

The main range runs east to west and includes a wide and a narrow gabled projecting block on the north side, with a centrally located enclosed 19th-century porch. The western range has two gabled dormers on the north roof slope, both with peg tile roofs, and each floor features a double hung sash window with small panes and moulded surrounds. The projecting gabled blocks have a mix of 19th-century two and three-light casements, some with small panes and others with two horizontal glazing bars in each light.

There is a rebuilt stack with three diagonal shafts located off-centre along the ridge line, and a smaller stack near the west gable. To the east, there is a painted brick block that is two storeys high with a lower ridge line, featuring one double hung sash window with small panes on its north elevation. This block is connected to a two-storey range, which is part render and part brick over a timber frame, by a single-storey block with a peg tile roof. The gabled roof of this range also has peg tiles and extends down to a continuous single-storey lean-to at the rear.

The front, or west face, has a central projecting gabled block with peg tiles, and the windows are a combination of 19th and 20th-century casements. A large square stack is positioned off-centre along the ridge line. Inside the main block, there is a four-centred arched door head.
